Select your Style {Day 8}

Keep Calm and Select a Venue...31 Days to the Altar {A guide to a short engagement} #weddingplanning #marriage #wedding #Venue #location

Now that you have your venue booked, you can pick a theme. The theme of your wedding is pretty important, as it will determine the direction for a lot of elements- like your wedding dress, bridal party attire, invitations, decorations and in some cases even things such as catering, music, etc.

Some people get really specific with their theme, but I would suggest picking a broad category or two:

  • Romantic
  • Elegant
  • Rustic
  • Vintage
  • Modern

Try to fit your theme to your venue. For instance, if you’re getting married in a barn, you probably don’t want to have your groomsmen in tuxes and everyone dressed to the 9. I imagine a lot of heels getting stuck in the dirt and some expensive outfits getting ruined. The latest trend seems to be Rustic Rustic Rustic! I don’t mind rustic {actually I quite like it}, but it didn’t really fit our venue, so I told my decorator “less burlap, more lace,” and we settled on “whimsical romantic” for our theme. {I would say about 50% of the people involved knew what that meant- luckily it was the right 50%, so everything came out beautifully!} I still have not been able to explain to my husband what exactly “whimsical romantic” means, but I think our eclectic centrepieces, book page decorations, lace, and bridal party’s ombre shades of purple are the perfect picture of what I had in mind when I thought of the theme. It was romantic and elegant enough to fit in with our venue, but casual enough to make us feel at home.

The most important thing to remember when picking a theme {and planning all elements of the wedding} is that it should represent YOU as a couple. Do you spend your weekends getting dolled up to have a nice dinner and hit the town with friends? Go for an elegant evening affair. Do you love hanging outdoors, running through mud and sporting for food? Maybe a rustic barn wedding is more your style. Not only will you enjoy the day more, but your friends and family {who more than likely share your same interests} will probably feel more comfortable as well.
