I’ve been around several people lately who are stuck; their “wheels are spinning.” It makes me sad because I don’t think we should ever feel that way as Christians. Our whole purpose in life is to GO, to be missional, to be reaching out, not to be sitting still, stuck in the mud.
I like to think that I’m a very passionate person. I can’t even describe the feeling of passion, it’s just an excitement in my heart and my inner being that makes me want to dance and squeal. Things I am passionate about include Northern Ireland, working with college students, and mentoring. One of my favourite get-to-know-you questions to ask people is “what are you passionate about?” I’ve been surprised at how few people are able to come up with an answer. This also makes me sad, because if you’re not doing something that you’re passionate about, you’re doing it all wrong.
Passion is also contagious. I was talking to a guy at Bible study the other day who is now in Thailand where he will be teaching English. He was so excited about his upcoming trip that his passion started spreading and I found myself wishing I was going with him- and I’ve never had any desire to travel to Asia!
I wish we would all do that. Pursue the things we are passionate about, getting other people on board as we go. It would really change the quality of life.
So, what are you passionate about?
