My mother in law talked me into joining a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group this fall. I really had no idea what to expect, but the group meets only 5 blocks from my house, so it was hard to say no. The ladies at the meet and greet were very friendly so I signed up, and boy am I glad I did! I attended the first few meetings as a mom-to-be, and right away felt very welcomed into this tribe of mamas. Each week that we meet I walk away feeling SO encouraged and uplifted. It is such a great group of women, most of whom have moved to the area in the last few years, which means everyone brings a very different perspective to the group. Whether it’s sharing “mom hacks,” watching a video series and discussing deeper issues, or just working together on a craft or service project, we always have a great time.
Our group meets on Wednesdays, twice a month. Today is a non-MOPS Wednesday, and those are always less exciting than the weeks we get to go to MOPS. Today was especially hard because I have a teething baby who cries non stop whenever I put him down. I’m enjoying the extra snuggles, but by 3pm I was getting a little tired and run down. Then I checked my e-mail. In steps MOPS for my much needed dose of Wednesday encouragement! They chose to publish a piece that I wrote on their MOPS International blog, Hello Dearest! It’s a short piece about entering this new season of life without my mom, but being able to rely on the mothers around me. I do hope that you will check it out! And if you are a mom, I encourage you to join a local MOPS chapter–or start your own! Our group just got started last year and there has been so much interest that they have a waiting list!
